Kaleidoscopic Sculptures series

Kaleidoscopic Sculptures series

The reference to a kaleidoscope is used in this series because it applies the digital technique of repeating the reflection of the sample photograph 3 more times plus the initial image.

To be more specific the “sculpture” process was made with pieces of various colored and textured papers arranged in different alignments within one and other. Parts of the composition that are involved show shadows of the edges, sparkling reflections of the textures of the papers, the element of focus and the absence of focus as well that reminds us it is a photograph we are looking at, not a real 3D object.

This first part of this series of images is also involved in the project “instant sculptures” and makes an attempt to explore the composing elements of visual composition that range from proportion, direction, color, contrast, angles, rhythm, etc.

We find ourselves with the results of imperfect angles and edges of the “sculpture” or subject photographed appealing to a type of ‘wabi sabi’ aesthetic. This “kaleidoscopic sculptures” series ignites an inquiring wonder created by the photographic framing that makes in each intersection of edges a subtle thin line between what we know and what we don’t know about the resulting shape’s size, direction or position.

During the work with this series we came to realize that the images of “kaleidoscopic sculptures” have a dramatic change taking account orientation and distance from where they are observed. The working idea of the exhibit of “kaleidoscopic sculptures” is to mount the images in rotating frames that can be observed from different distances.
